RAPID CITY, SD—The Rapid City Municipal Band will kick off its 108th season of free concerts Wednesday, June 10, at 8 p.m. at the Memorial Park Bandshell. The weekly concerts will be performed each Wednesday night through July 29 with the addition of a special Independence Day concert to be held Saturday, July 4, as part of Rapid City’s America 250 Birthday Bash of events.
What started with a rehearsal in June 1918, the Rapid City Municipal Band and its local performers have provided free music for Rapid City citizens and visitors every summer season. The Municipal Band is comprised of approximately 65 men and women and is sponsored by the City of Rapid City. The group has performed the past several years under the direction of co-directors Mark Bray, Don Downs, and Bill Evans. Many members of the Rapid City New Horizons Band have participated in the Municipal Band at one time or another, including our former director, Milo Winter.
The concerts are free, and audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for an evening of fun. Please note, the Rapid City New Horizons Band will perform a concert at 7 pm prior to the July 15 RCMB concert.
